Why india is the real no 1 test team?
there have been great shufflings in the recent times in the rankings of test teams but one team has emerged as ace amongst all and that is INDIA and they deserve to be at no 1. they have had a grand home season and no team ahs able to beat them or even come close to them in the subcontinents.they have ruthlessly smashed the oppositions one by one.
Achievements of virat kohli’s team in 2 years:
- they have beaten srilanka in srilanka 2-1
- they smashed southafrica 3-0 at home
- they have clean sweeped newzealand 3-0
- they have beaten westindies in carrebian 2-0
- they have beaten england 4-0 at home
- they have smashed bangladesh by a huge margin in the historic test
By far it looks that which ever team comes to tackle india ,they have been embarrased very badly and now its time for australia and no one will be surprised if they are beaten 4-0 just like in 2013 .
so here is a challenging task and that is to prepare a team of players from around the world that can give some serious challenge to team india in subcontinents .
Here is my World XI :
David warner ( aus)
Hashim amla (SA)
Joe root (eng)
Steve smith ( aus ) (VC)
AB develiers ( SA) (C)
Johny bairstow (eng) (WK)
Mitchell starc ( aus)
Dale steyn ( SA)
Rangana herath (sri)
Yasir shah (pak)
The batting unit :
now this can be a bit argumentative that whether these players have proved it or not in the subcontinents and the answer is YES .everyone in the top 7 except for steve smith has played in india and have proved their worth.as far as steve smith is considered ,the worlds no 1 test player at the moment deserves a spot in any world team and going by his technique he will be able to handle spin effectively .He knows how to score runs in any conditions. the load of captaincy is given to AB because he knows the indian conditions very well now and will be able to use his bowlers very effectively
The all rounder spot :
now all rounder spot is filled by shakib .he is a very cunning bowler with excellent batting . i have had a couple of options too – ben stokes and moeen ali but i wanted a good quality spinner and moeen ali in the recent series did not look very effective. ben stokes is only effective with some green patches on the pitch and that is not indian things
Wicket keeper batsman :
johny bairtsow is the best wicket keeper batsman in indian conditions and he has proven that .
when u are bowling in india u need sheer pace with reverse swinging abilities because no other fast bowling skill is gonna work here.there is not much help from the pitch so you have to pitch up and reverse swing it. and steyn and starc have been excellent in this skill.they know how to swing it both ways in the air at serious pace. i would have chosen pakistani bowlers for reverse swing but they havent been in good form from a very long time
spin bowling department has to be lead by the evergreen rangana herath.. i have chosen yasir shah because no other effective spinners are left in the world after ravi ashwin and jadeja and they both play for india. yasir shah has a lot of energy and you need that in india .he can be very good leg spinner if he sticks to his basics and of course shakib is gonna bowl his left arm cunning spin bowling.
by far to me this team looks the most balanced team with players who have great experience and skill to tackle the two best spinners in the world and have the capacity to challenge the worlds best batting side especially virat kohli-arguably the best batsmen in all three formats right now.
The toss factor :
toss can be a big bet if world XI piles a score of 500 runs afer winning the toss, then only its possible to draw the match or even think of a win because we have seen in england series at mumbai and chepauk, england scored 400 plus runs in the first inning batting first after winning the toss but still they lost both the matches by an innings.so moral of the story – 400 is not enough. make 500 or lose the match
A match to watch in a generation :
its always a challenge to beat india in india but this team certainly has potential to challenge india especially the batting unit and its very important to get first innings runs in india. i wish ICC schedules a match between world XI and india in india. it will be a great contest to see if india dominates the world XI or the world XI challenges this tormenting indian side led by a ferocious leader – virat kohli
what the world XI needs to do to challenge india?
firstly they need to keep their basics right and dont get carried away if they dont start well . they have to play spin very well and bowl spin very well. thats the key here otherwise ashwin and jadeja will be all over you and the batting unit will pile a mammoth score and u wont even come close to it even after batting twice. thats the beauty of this indian team .they are on an unbeaten streak of 19 test matches and going by the recent results the streak is gonna stand at 22 or 23 after the australia series because this indian team doesnt bow down to anyone.
